Introduction

Welcome to Headed For a Homestead

Hello! And welcome to our journey!

Why don’t I start by Introducing myself. My name is Rebekah, and I’m the homemaker around here (though many days it’s a team effort). My husband, Caleb, and I have been married for almost three years, and right from the start, we knew we wanted our life to look a little different than society, but we didn’t know just how different. We were sure that we wanted to homeschool any future children which meant I would stay home eventually, and we knew we wanted to live outside of town.

In the time since then, I have learned so many things, but the biggest is that I love to learn. Now, not the typical ‘sit in a classroom, take notes, pass the test’ sort of learning, but the ‘get your hands messy, learn as you go’ sort of learning. And that’s exactly how I’ve ended up here!

Caleb and I moved away from our hometown and families two years ago this August. He was coming to continue schooling, but I had no idea what I was going to do. As a 2020 college graduate, my working life had been spotty and all over the place, so I decided to become a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant. I worked in that environment for about a year, and loved my job, but I’ll be honest, I’m not an 8-5 girl. So just before Thanksgiving of 2022, we decided I would quit my job at the clinic and stay home. This was risky, and has proven to be a challenge, but we’re making it work, and my “job” has never felt more right for me.

So, we don’t have children, we live in an apartment, and we live on one income. You’re probably wondering what on earth I do with my time. And the answer is “plenty”!

At the first of the year, I was able to name a few skills that I wanted to tackle in the year to come. Canning, followed by general bread-making, then sourdough and sewing. There are, and have been, small things to learn along the way, and the challenges don’t quit coming, but it has been an absolute joy to find new ways to bring glory to God in my home, and I hope to inspire others to do so as well.

As I follow Christ, I aim to be a woman of God who loves her family, works hard, is a good steward of her time and resources, and is continually growing in wisdom and knowledge of the Lord. I hope you’ll join me on this journey to doing that in the best way for me and my family.
